  2. Day 02Windhoek to Hobatere Roadside CampCamping · Hobatere

Today we leave the capital behind and begin our journey toward Namibia’s remote northwest. The 540 km route follows tarred roads through commercial farmlands, open savannah, and small settlements as the landscape gradually becomes more rugged. This is a solid driving day that allows everyone to settle into expedition mode. The scenery becomes wider and more untamed as we approach the Kunene Region. By late afternoon we arrive at Hobatere Roadside Camp, where we set up camp for the night. Under the vast African sky, the first true feeling of wilderness settles in.

  3. Day 03Hobatere to Raycana Rest CampCamping · Ruacana

We continue north toward Ruacana Waterfalls, where the Kunene River cascades dramatically along the Angolan border. After exploring the area, we follow the river downstream, entering increasingly remote terrain. The drive along the Kunene offers striking views of rocky escarpments and flowing water cutting through arid surroundings. Our destination is Raycana Rest Camp, perched high above the river. We camp right on the escarpment, overlooking one of Namibia’s most powerful natural features. The sunset over the Kunene is unforgettable.

  4. Day 04Raycana Rest Camp to Epupa FallsCamping · Epupa Falls

Today we follow one of Namibia’s most scenic routes as we continue downstream along the Kunene River. The road winds through palm-lined valleys, rugged hills, and remote settlements, offering spectacular river views along the way. By afternoon we arrive at Epupa Falls, where we will spend two nights camping in this remarkable location. The falls cascade over multiple channels surrounded by Makalani palms, creating a lush contrast to the arid surroundings. This remote region is also home to some of the most traditional Himba communities, where many families still live according to their ancestral customs and lifestyle. A visit to a traditional Himba village offers meaningful cultural insight into one of Namibia’s most iconic communities.

  5. Day 05Epupa Falls ExplorationCamping · Epupa Falls

This day is dedicated to exploring and enjoying Epupa Falls. You may walk along the riverbanks, climb viewpoints above the falls, or simply relax at camp while listening to the constant sound of rushing water. The slower pace allows time to absorb the atmosphere, interact with local communities, and prepare for the challenging terrain that awaits in the days ahead.

  6. Day 06Epupa to Van Zyl’s Pass Ultimate 4x4Camping · Van Zyl’s Pass

Today we face one of Africa’s most legendary 4x4 challenges – the notorious Van Zyls Pass. The descent is steep, rocky, and technical, demanding concentration, precision, and teamwork. This is true expedition driving and one of the highlights of the entire journey. We carefully navigate the upper section of the pass, working our way down the mountain slopes while the vast Marienfluss Valley begins to reveal itself below us. By late afternoon, we reach a spectacular wild camping viewpoint overlooking the Marienfluss. From this elevated position, the valley stretches endlessly beneath us, framed by distant mountain ranges. We do not yet enter the valley – instead, we spend the night high above it, enjoying one of the most dramatic wilderness camps of the expedition.

  7. Day 07Van Zyl’s Pass to EtaamburaRooms · Etaambura

After sunrise over the valley, we continue with the most demanding and technical section of Van Zyls Pass. This is the steepest and most challenging part of the descent, requiring careful vehicle control and steady nerves as we finally make our way down into the Marienfluss Valley. Once on the valley floor, the landscape opens into wide plains surrounded by mountain backdrops, creating a sense of vastness that is difficult to describe. We cross the Marienfluss and continue toward Etaambura, entering the region often referred to as Stonemen Country. Along the way, we begin searching for the mysterious stone figures scattered across the landscape. By afternoon we arrive at Etaambura, where comfortable rooms await. After two intense days of driving and wild camping, this is a welcome opportunity to rest and recharge in one of Namibia’s most remote regions.

  8. Day 08Etaambura to Omenje CampCamping · Omenje Camp

Our journey continues toward Puros through isolated valleys and dry riverbeds. The terrain remains rugged, with shifting surfaces and constant changes in scenery. We arrive at Omenje Camp, beautifully situated on the banks of the Hoarusib River. Here we set up camp beside the river, surrounded by dramatic desert landscapes that define Namibia’s northwest.

From Puros we enter the mighty Hoanib River system, navigating sandy river corridors shaped by seasonal water flow. The environment is vast and dramatic, characterized by towering rock formations and wide desert plains. By afternoon we reach Ongongo Waterfalls, a hidden oasis nestled between rocky cliffs. Natural pools offer a refreshing break from the desert heat. We camp here and enjoy the unique combination of water and wilderness.

We follow sections of the riverbed before arriving at White Lady Lodge at the foot of the mountain. Here we camp and enjoy the opportunity to relax by the pool. The late afternoon light on the granite dome provides a stunning backdrop for the evening.

  13. Days 13–14Spitzkoppe to WindhoekRooms · Windhoek

From Spitzkoppe, we begin our journey toward Windhoek. Passing farmlands and small towns before arriving in Windhoek. Upon arrival, you will once again check in at the same accommodation as before. In the evening, we gather for a special farewell dinner, reflecting on the highlights of the adventure, sharing stories, and celebrating the memories made along the way. It’s a relaxed and heartfelt end to an unforgettable Namibian experience. On the last morning, depending on flight schedules, the morning offers the option of a guided Windhoek city tour. Afterwards, we transfer to Hosea Kutako International Airport for departure. As the expedition concludes, you leave with memories of river valleys, mountain passes, wild camps, cultural encounters, and one of the most challenging and rewarding 4x4 routes in southern Africa.
